Denying the visa to Modi was a serious misstep in foreign policy, New Jersey ratepayer advocate Seema Singh said. "Gujarat and Gujaratis have a special relation with the US. A chief minister in India is like the governor of a state in the US and denying a visa to such an official is not justified."
She asked the people to persuade State Department and the White House to reverse the decision.
She also saluted the spirit and enthusiasm of the people in attending the event. "I am proud the government of India is standing behind Modi in this issue," she added.
New Jersey assemblyman Chivukula also expressed similar sentiments and said the denial of a visa was an extreme step.
The organisers asked the people to flood State Department with requests to reconsider the decision.
