Modi: 'Live' at Madison Square Garden
In his speech, Congressman Pallone (in the picture) said what happened two years ago in Gujarat was a blot on India. "But that is not the issue here. India is a friend and a democratically elected official from there deserves a visa," he said.
"I will do whatever I can to reverse the decision and will also try that such things don't happen in future," he added.
"Denial of visa was a real insult," Dr Sudhir Parekh, president of the Federation of Indian Associations said. "It is not something that affects Modi alone."
Chetana Shah, an activist with the Vishwa Hindu Parishad from the Bronx in New York said the community should emulate Jews in countering the attacks by various groups.
"We should also lobby the power centres and the media to get what is rightfully ours. After all, Indians are the second richest group in the US," she said.
