NEWS India makes peace overtures… A few months are a long time in India-Pakistan ties. Just when it looked as if the relationship was doomed to enmity, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced in Kashmir on April 18: 'We are still willing to extend the hand of friendship.' Since then, barring the usual verbal volleys, things have only looked up -- diplomatic ties have been restored; the Delhi-Lahore bus service is on; next in line is the resumption of the Samjhauta Express and flight services. Most important, considering that the armed forces of the two countries were in eyeball-to-eyeball confrontation last year, has been a ceasefire along the Line of Control and on the Siachen glacier.
