After sunset, and after the evening namaaz, a Muslim family sits together for the iftar meal. This usually begins with dates and sweet drinks that provide a quick energy boost.
In the evenings, the markets are full of mouth-watering sweets. Food stalls exhibit various delicacies like kebabs, falooda (a milkshake containing fruits, nuts, jelly, vermicelli and khus-khus topped with ice-cream), phirni, shahi halwa and malpua.
The atmosphere is fair-like, and the huge market attracts burqa-clad women of all ages who come with their families from far-off places.
