Ramadan ends with the festival of Eid ul Fitr. It is celebrated on the first day of the new moon in Shawwal, the month after Ramadan that begins when the new moon is sighted.
Eid ul Fitr literally means the 'festival of breaking the fast.'
On Eid ul Fitr, Muslims take a bath, wear new or clean clothes, apply perfume, eat dates or some other sweets and then walk to the mosque for Eid prayers. Men wear white because white symbolises purity and austerity.
After communing with Allah, they distribute alms to the poor.
