The summer of 2003 saw Aishwarya on the jury of the Cannes International Film Festival.

Though she was the first Indian actress do so, there were ugly rumours that she was chosen more for the looks than her talent. She also drew flak for her supposedly poor wardrobe (designed by Neeta Lulla) at the festival.
