SHOPPERS’ DELIGHT: Indian consumer spending grew by almost 15 per cent during 2002-2003; market sources say this year the figure is likely to grow even more.

Although savings are down from last year, the flow of money into the economy -- as more people spend heavily -- has helped many sectors see big growth.

Purchases on credit cards and debts have risen too, but no one’s complaining. The Indian buyer is out to shop till s/he drops. And there's nothing to beat the Diwali season to do just that.
