Jeeva, Mohanlal's buddy in Keerthichakra

July 6, 2006
Jeeva shot to prominence with his intense portrayal of an autistic young man in Ram, one of the most acclaimed Tamil films of recent times. He then appeared as a stunt master in Dishyum. In his latest, Keerthichakra, he plays Havaldar Jayakumar, an army commando who is Mohanlal's buddy on a militant operation in Kashmir. The ambitious film by Major Ravi is a bilingual, titled Aran in Tamil.

As it gets ready for a July 14 release, Jeeva spoke to Shobha Warrier about working with Mohanlal.

Did you agree to act in Keerthichakra because your father, R B Chowdhary, is the producer?

No. I was booked to play Commando Jayakumar earlier, and was signed on immediately after Ram. The producer was somebody else then. Later, when that producer opted out, I told my father it was an interesting project and that we should produce it. We decided to make it a bilingual because, from a business point of view, it would be viable only that way as it is a big budget film.
