Over a span of one hour, career counsellors Niyati and Srividya from YoungBuzz tackled questions on Class X results, study options, new vocational disciplines and more. Here is the transcript:
Nidhi: I am too tense about my Class X results, based on which I am going to decide whether to take Arts or Commerce. Please tell me if Arts is a good stream. What are the career prospects?
YoungBuzz counsellors: Hi Nidhi, you must relax. Depending on your interests, you can go in for Arts or Commerce. Both have equal prospects. With Arts, you could look for a career in Psychology, Teaching, Mass Media, Law, Linguistics and many more.
With Commerce, you could look at Management, Finance and Accounts, Company Secretary, Banking, Insurance and many more. Good luck!
Tarun: I finished my B Com last year and am presently working for a call centre in Gurgaon. I would like to pursue a master's degree from Australia or the UK. Can you please advise which country is best for studies, what are the job prospects and what will be the approximate cost for living, course fee?
YoungBuzz counsellors: You have not mentioned which course you wish to go in for.
When you plan your studies abroad, lots of factors need to be considered -- like aptitude, the country of study, your budget, your housing cost and how you have been faring in your academic and extra-curricular activities.
ashish: I couldn't do well in my HSC though I passed. I want to do something in hotel management. What would be the future scope in that field?
I have below 50 percent marks. Will I get admission anywhere?
YoungBuzz counsellors: There are many alternatives. You could finish your graduation and then do your Diploma in Hotel Management from the Taj Hotel's Indian Institute of Hotel Management, Aurangabad , or at the Oberoi by giving their entrance exam.
The hospitality industry is booming as of now and the prospects are tremendous.
anku: I am studying in second PUC-PCMB. I came to Bangalore only after my SSC. I did my schooling till Class X in Gujarat.
I scored 90 percent in first PUC at Bangalore.
What are my prospects in Karnataka's engineering and medical colleges? As per my schooling, I am not eligible for domicile in Karnataka.
YoungBuzz counsellors: Hi Anku. If you are not from that particular domicile state, you have only 5 to 10 percent of quota available to you.
dudemumbai: Could you tell me options for IT professionals in the entertainment industry and in TV media?
YoungBuzz counsellors: You could get into animation, the gaming industry, graphics, multimedia design and programming. The scope is very vast.
mirwajahathali: Hello everyone. I completed my intermediate with 72 percent. Now will you tell me what should I do?
YoungBuzz counsellors: You you need to find out your area of interest.
Apart from the traditional options, there are a host of courses you can look into like Mass Media, Animation, Graphics, Law, Photography and BMS, apart from the traditional options.
Introspect, do your research and then decide. Try to meet a career counsellor for guidance. Good luck!
SAJIDALI: I have completed my diploma in Computer Engineering after SSC and passed with distinction.
At present, I am working with a big MNC IT company as a computer engineer.
But I still want to do a degree course and have registered for BCA from IGNOU.
Is it better to do this kind of a computer correspondence course? Please give me right path for the proper career.
YoungBuzz counsellors: You could do a correspondence course from the Department of Electronics, Accreditation of Computer Courses in New Delhi.
Do their C Level course which is equivalent to MBA or M Tech.
