It was only in the last one year that things changed, and the government has started taking the historic event seriously.
"I must say things are changing for good now. We are going to soon have a museum on the 150th anniversary of freedom struggle in Meerut. In the museum there is going to be detailed description about the event with lots of paintings and statues of those freedom fighters," says Dr Pathak.
Dr Pathak is spearheading a movement to create awareness about the 1857 Uprising among locals and is also heading the movement to construct the museum with the help of other government authorities.
In Meerut, the Central government through Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan has organised a three-day function to commemorate event which Minister for Rural Development and Sports and Youth Affairs Mani Shankar Aiyar will attend.
Sunday's events also included a play on the life of Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi and other freedom fighters. Dancers from various states were also invited to perform.
