Among the throng of delegates at the inaugural ceremony were many famous NRI faces, including US-based technocrat Sam Pitroda (white flowing hair).

Pitroda, who has been honoured with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award for his contributions in the field of technology, is credited with scaling country's telecom infrastructure up to global standards.

A veteran of three Pravasi Bharatiya Divas held so far, Pitroda praised India's achievements in many spheres. The NRI said he saw great potential in India's young generation.
