A Palestinian woman prays as a television channel flashes the news that their leader has been declared dead.
In the West Bank city of Ramallah, Palestinians huddled around radios at street corners as the news spread.
Loudspeakers mounted on trucks blared Arafat's most famous quotes. "Yasser Arafat is inside our hearts - in the hearts of the real nation of Palestine," said one Gaza City resident as he beat his chest. "Yasser Arafat will never die!"
