Biswal offers to quit as deputy chief minister

Hemanand Biswal, who was recently appointed Orissa Pradesh Congress Committee chief, today offered to resign from the deputy chief ministership.

Biswal arrived in Bhubaneswar this morning and offered his resignation to Chief Minister J B Patnaik.

Speaking to newspersons at his official residence, Patnaik however, ruled out any reshuffle of his cabinet following Biswal's decision to quit.

Asked about the possible abolition of the post of deputy chief minister post and any change or induction in the ministry, the chief minister said: "Nothing is happening today."

Biswal, who took charge as OPCC chief from Patnaik recently, told reporters that he would resign from the post of deputy chief minister on the basis of the principle, 'one man one post'.

Biswal also hinted that there would be some changes in the cabinet but did not give any time-frame.
