The Top Five Rock Bands Ever

The Rolling Stones

'Would you let your daughter date a Rolling Stone?' That is still a frightening question, decades after it was first asked as a PR exercise introducing the world to the original bad boys of rock.

Forty years after shocking older men and women - and delighting the youth of London -- the Stones burn bright, daring you to take them on.

Formed in 1962 by Brian Jones and Ian Stewart, the line-up changed over the early years. Today, it's down to just Mick, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood and Charlie Watts.

The lads began by covering American blues standards, but soon began topping charts with their own music. [I Can't Get No] Satisfaction, in 1965, kick-started the Stones juggernaut, and it doesn't look like it's going to stop any time soon.

The Stones have released 22 studio albums in the United Kingdom to date, apart from all kinds of compilations, live albums and a couple of solo efforts. They have sold over 200 million albums worldwide, and were inducted into the American Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989.

Rolling Stone magazine ranked them Number 4 on its '100 Greatest Artists of All Time' list, in 2004. A decade from now, we're betting they'll still be high up on that list.

Listen to this: Beggars Banquet [1968]; Let It Bleed [1969]; Exile on Main St. [1972]; Goats Head Soup [1973].
