Scenario II: My boss and I have different work ideologies. I feel I am compromising on my work ethics while doing things his/her way. What should I do?
Solution: No two people are alike and never will be.
Our sensibilities and ideologies are bound to differ.
There are different approaches to this problem, depending on your work experience:
1. If you are at the beginning of your career, it is natural to have ideological differences. You are shifting from ideals to reality.
In time, you will notice that what appeared so wrong few days ago is not so wrong, after all.
I am not saying give in. It is just that your maturity level changes with time.
2. If you are not a fresher and the ideological differences persist, weigh the pros and cons.
Find out how much your principles matter to you. Is it taking away your peace of mind? Are you restless?
If so, talk to your boss. Convey your viewpoint. Could there be a middle path? You are the best judge.
Ideally, you should be able to retain your approach while doing things the boss's way. You must develop strength of mind, perception and determination.
This, of course, depends on your capacity to withstand friction and work with the opposition.
If the situation is hopeless, look for an alternate job. Remember, though, that an ideal situation is tough to find. You have to work at making things ideal for you.
