Always save with a goal in mind

If not, you will squander your money on anything that catches your fancy.

Think about it. If she was determined to save for a car or for a holiday, she would never have been lured by the passing temptation of a designer outfit.

But with money just lying there begging to be used, everything would be a temptation.

Don't just save because it is a good thing to do. Save with a purpose in mind. It prevents unnecessary splurging.

When I did ask my friend what she really wanted, she came up with three things after some amount of thought (purely coincidental that all begin with the letter H).
