US on Tuesday expressed optimism over operationalisation of the Indo-US Civil Nuclear Deal hoping that it would ultimately pass the Indian democratic process.

"I am an optimist. I think good ideas automatically get done," US Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said while replying to questions on the nuclear deal, which has hit a roadblock following stiff opposition from the Left parties.

"India is a vibrant democracy. The democratic process has to work. It (deal) is possible when India moves forward," he said at the Fortune Global Forum meeting in Delhi.

"The process in India works. Let them come to their own conclusion," he added.

Paulson further said that it was important to get the civil nuclear deal implemented as soon as possible because it would be good for India's energy security and infrastructure in addition to helping the country meet the need for clean energy sources.

The US treasury secretary also stressed that bilateral relations with India was never so good in the past as it is now.
