Maratha strongman Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule is all set to sail unopposed into the Upper House with the Shiv Sena deciding not to oppose the Nationalist Congress Party nominee's candidature for the September 18 Rajya Sabha by-polls.
Supriya also won words of praises from the Sena mouthpiece Saamna. The newspaper, in an editorial, commended her saying that she was not like 'offspring of other politicians who don't know anything".
"Sena will be supporting Supriya's candidature," a senior Sena leader told PTI on Wednesday, on condition of anonymity.
Former Lok Sabha speaker and senior Sena leader, Manohar Joshi, though, said the party was yet to take any official stand on the issue.
"We welcome Supriya's candidature. For the first time, Pawar has taken a good political decision," the editorial said.
The newspaper, edited by Sena chief Bal Thackeray, went on to describe how, as a tiny tot, Supriya accompanied her parents to the Thackeray residence.
"That was when our friendship was at its peak", it said.
"She has worked among nomadic tribes for the last 10 years," the editorial added.
