Putting an end to the bitterness in its ties with Nationalist Congress Party, the Congress on Monday supported the candidature of Supriya Sule, daughter of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, for the Rajya Sabha by-election from Maharashtra scheduled for September 18.
"I thank Sonia Gandhi and the Congress party for supporting Supriya's candidature," Union Minister and NCP leader Praful Patel said when contacted by PTI after his meeting with the Congress president.
Patel said that 38-year-old Supriya would be filing her nomination on Tuesday for the by-election caused by the death of party leader Vasant Chavan.
