Police have drawn sketches of two militants involved in the twin blasts in Varanasi based on the description provided by the owner of a shop where they had left a pressure-cooker bomb, similar to the one used in triggering explosions at the Sankat Mochan temple and railway station.

Official sources said two youths had gone to a shop near Godowlia in Varanasi and purchased a door mat for Rs 100.

After making the payment, the two youths left a bag there. However, when the alert shopkeeper asked them to take it, they made a hasty retreat from the scene saying they would be returning soon, the sources said.

Police was informed and they discovered a pressure-cooker bomb inside the bag. It was immediately defused, the sources said.

The shopkeeper later helped the police and security agencies in preparing the sketches of the two militants.

He also informed the police that from their conversation, the youths appeared well-educated and were not locals.
