Congress president Sonia Gandhi has resigned from all socio-cultural organisations -- including those connected with the Nehru-Gandhi family -- that have been receiving government funding, party sources said on Monday.

Sonia has been associated with the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust, Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Fund, Indian Council for Child Welfare Trust, Swaraj Bhavan Trust, Kamala Nehru Memorial Society and Hospital, Nehru Trust for Cambridge University, Round Square (International Group of Schools) United Kingdom, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library in various capacities.

The Congress last week announced that Sonia was resigning as the chairperson of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. Later, she put in her papers as head of the Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust and Jawahar Bhavan Trust.

She has also resigned from chairpersonship of Jallianwala Bagh National Trust.

The Congress president quit her Lok Sabha seat and the chair of the National Advisory Council on March 23 in the wake of an Opposition campaign on the office-of-profit issue.

The controversy broke after Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan was disqualified from Rajya Sabha.

The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Telugu Desam Party had petitioned President A P J Abdul Kalam, seeking Sonia's disqualification.

Sonia, who will contest the May 8 by-poll in Rae Bareli, apparently wants to avoid any legal challenge vis-à-vis the office-of-profit issue.

A Bill on the office-of-profit issue will come up for discussion in Parliament during the session beginning May 10.
