Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Vaiko has charged that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, a constituent of the United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre, had failed to take up the cause of the flood-hit farmers of Tamil Nadu with the prime minister and the Union government.

Sun TV blacked me out: Vaiko

Addressing a series of election meetings in Madurai and Dindigul districts on Monday night, he said the Centre had allotted a paltry sum of Rs 500 crore against the Rs 13,000 crore sought by the state government for flood relief.

'Let us forget the past'

Vaiko alleged that the DMK had failed to render justice to the state farmers despite having many ministers in the Union government. The party could also not secure the compensation for crop loss ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000 as sought by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

'Amma wants unity of all Tamils'

He hailed the Farmers' Social Security Scheme introduced by the AIADMK government. Further, he strongly objected to the reported distribution of telephone vouchers, carrying pictures of Congress president Sonia Gandhi and DMK chief Karunanidhi.
