Launching a fresh attack on yoga guru Baba Ramdev, CPI-M leader Brinda Karat Tuesday accused him of violating labour laws in his pharmacy and the Uttaranchal goverment of covering it up.
"The central government has said there is a prima facie evidence (against Ramdev) even today, workers of the pharmacy are sitting on a dharna. Instead of listening to the demands of these workers, the government has covered up the issue," Karat told reporters.
The CPI-M politbureau member said the government must inquire into the allegations of labour laws violation by the 'Divya Yog' pharmacy and said the N D Tiwari government has proved itself to be a failure in this regard.
Karat pointed out that since the law is equal for everybody, the government must prosecute Ramdev for allegedly violating labour laws. "There should not any double standards on the issue."
Karat's comments come after the state government last month gave a clean chit to Ramdev on the allegation of using animal parts and human skills in his medicines.
She also slammed the Narmada Control Authority for raising the height of the dam in gross violation of the Supreme Court order and sought the PMO's intervention in this regard. "We are also seeking time...from the prime minister over the issue," she said.
Karat demanded the new laws should be enacted in Uttaranchal to safeguard the rights of non-tribal forest dwellers. She also sought special incentives for those badly affected by the Tehri Dam.
