Against the backdrop of Volcker committee report on Iraqi oil-for-food payoff, United Nations Under Secretary General Sashi Tharoor met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi Thursday evening. The meeting between Singh and Tharoor at the prime minister's official residence lasted for half an hour.
Tharoor drove out of the meeting venue without talking to the mediapersons. Earlier, Tharoor had, in an interview to a television news channel, said the committee's findings did not constitute presumption of guilt and the UN was ready to extend cooperation to Indian investigations into the content of the panel's report.
