India has undertaken the construction of the entire Kalian De Khan bridge near Kaman post, which falls on the Line of Control between the divided Kashmir in the Uri sector.
The director-general of military operations of Pakistan has agreed to India taking up the job.
"We will construct the whole bridge," army chief Gen J J Singh, who visited the post, the last Indian picket, told electronic media.
"As agreed by the director general of military operations of India and Pakistan the Kaman bridge will be constructed by the Indian BRO [Border Roads Organisation]."
Gen Singh flew to Uri on Tuesday to oversee the arrangements being made for the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service, which will begin on April 7. He also met senior army and BRO officials.
"There should be no disparity in the construction material, which has to be of uniform and equal strength and quality," he said when asked why the bridge was being constructed by India.
"It is a matter of pride for us that the BRO and the army will be constructing the bridge," he said.
Singh said his visit was to congratulate the army and the BRO who are working day and night to meet the April 7 deadline, when the road will be re-opened.
The army chief, who later met locals at Uri said, "India believed in giving peace a chance without compromising its defence preparedness."
He said the re-opening of the road was a big confidence-building measure taken by the central and state governments and hoped that the 'people to people contact on the two sides will usher in an era of peace in Jammu and Kashmir'.
