Suddenly, they seem to be everywhere. Or maybe they've always been around -- and yes, they have -- but it is technology that's spreading tales of their bad behaviour a lot faster than before.
And so television screens, newspapers and, of course, the Internet, abound with sordid tales of drug busts, drunken evenings, clothing malfunctions and worse.
The one thing common among the worst behaved stars, incidentally, is the fact that they're all young, and all very rich. Proof that money may make the world go round, but too much of it at an early age may simply be too difficult for some of us to handle.
If it isn't videos of Amy Winehouse snorting coke in public, it's the train wreck called Britney screaming on the streets.
If it isn't wannabe pop star Paris Hilton driving under the influence, it's Pete Doherty revelling in drug abuse.
