Jeeva, Mohanlal's buddy in Keerthichakra

July 6, 2006
After that kind of role, could you understand what the Indian Army was going through better?

Yes, I now understand them much better. While enacting some of the major operations, I felt we were really doing it. The action sequences had the exact durations of real operations, so it didn't feel like we were filming. Another thing I found was that Army men have no entertainment except watching television. When soldiers from Tamil Nadu saw me, they were very happy. I spent some time with them.

How much did interactions with Army men help in understanding your character?

They see death at such close quarters that they are casual about it. They will talk about how a colleague was shot in the head and died on the spot. That helped me portray my character in a more realistic manner.
