Chocolate delights

Shopping: Homemade chocolates are the delight of Kodaikanal. Shops sell these delicacies for Rs 30 onwards depending on the variety.

Most tourist spots have several small road-side shops selling local handicraft, clothes, bags, key chains, chocolates, assorted nuts and eucalyptus oil.

Chettiar Park: Located near the Kurujni Andavar Temple, Chettiar Park is worth a visit for those who love to see beautifully shaped greenery.

Bryant Park: Situated in the eastern side of the lake, Bryant Park hosts an annual horticultural event every year in May. The park has a wide range of flowers and plants with a glass house. Kurinji flowers which bloom once every 12 years are also found here.

Silver Cascade: Located 8 km away from Kodaikanal on the Ghat Road is the silver cascade, a 180-foot waterfall. Though bathing is banned, those adventurous enough can risk a dip.

Kurujni Andavar Temple: Located 3 km away from the lake, the temple dedicated to Lord Muruga, is also home to the Kurinji flowers. Palani and Vaigai dam can be viewed from the temple premises.

Rat Tail Falls: At 975 feet, the Rat Tail Falls can be seen at a distance while climbing the hills along Kodaikanal Ghat Road. There is no access to the site.

Shenbaganur Museum: Maintained by the Sacred Heart College, a Theological Seminary since 1895, this museum is dedicated to preserving certain archaeological remains and the flora and fauna of the hills. Burial urns of Paliyans as well stuffed animals are on display at the museum.

The museum also houses over 300 species of exotic orchids. Entry fee is collected here and timings are between 10 am to 11.30 am and 3 pm to 5 pm.

Kukkal Caves: Located 40 km away from Kodaikanal, the caves are home to the Paliyans, the first settlers in the area. The caves here are actually overhanging slabs of rock. A lovely spot for trekking. The animals sighted here are mostly bisons.
