Ganguly cried on being dropped

Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Gangluy, who was dropped by the selectors from the team for the third and final Test match against Sri Lanka [ Images ] to be played in Ahmedabad [ Images ] from December 18, was so upset with the decision that he could not stop tears rolling down his cheeks, said a close friend of Sourav speaking to rediff.com.

"He gave the news to his wife, Dona, who was at the time out shopping with their daughter. The two immediately rushed back to him," the source said.

When this correspondent asked Dona Ganguly if the decision to drop had been too harsh, she just said: "Yeah."

Although Ganguly did not give interviews to the media, he is said to have met some sports journalists who expressed solidarity with him and patted him for his performance in the Delhi [ Images ] Test.

"He had done a splendid job in both the innings. He scored 121 runs along with Sachin Tendulkar [ Images ], contributing 40 runs, in the first innings, and also scored 39 in the second essay. After the team won the match, it is unfair to drop him," said a senior sports journalist from a leading television news channel.

When Sourav finally came out of his room after the team for the third Test was announced, he found that he was alone as no senior or junior player came down with him.

He carried his little daughter Sana in his arms. But as battery of television cameras focussed on him, he handed over his daughter to wife and jostled his way into the waiting car.

A little later Dona and Sana joined Ganguly in the car and the three sped away to the airport to catch their flight to Kolkata [ Images ].
