Rahul Dravid

As a high achiever that is what you have to aim for. You don't want to be picked for England just to do a job. You want to be achieving at the highest level and winning games for your country and for everyone in that dressing room that is what it's about.

- England all-rounder Ronnie Irani after beating India by 64 runs on Tuesday.

Rahul Dravid

Everyone has got the World Cup in mind and we are moving in the right direction and if we play like this for the next six months we will be in with a realistic chance in the World Cup.

- India's vice-captain Rahul Dravid after the team's improved performance in the Tri-Series.

Nasser Hussain

We really learned how to go about a one-day innings and the little master (Sachin Tendulkar) showed us that.

- England Skipper Nasser Hussain urged his players to learn from Tendulkar.

We have to get our thinking caps on and work out how we're going to beat India, both in the one-dayers and Test matches, and how we're going to get through this batting line-up.

- England skipper Nasser Hussain on the challenge that lies ahead of his team

Tendulkar

It's taken quite some time because the first one-dayer I played against England was back in 1990. I've only played about 20 games against them, but it was just one of those things.

- Sachin Tendulkar after he scored his first century against England, in England

I've seen a lot of people come back from retirement and I have my fingers crossed with Jav. He's still got a lot of cricket to offer and I hope he changes his mind.

- Skipper Sourav Ganguly is hoping Javagal Srinath will reconsider his retirement.

He's struggling a little bit at the moment, but he's a hard worker and straight after the game he was on at the coach about videos. He will work hard and we've got to persevere with him because he's a good white-ball bowler.

- England skipper Nasser Hussain commenting on pace bowler Matthew Hoggard's lack of form in the NatWest Tri-Series

That was a shame, and it’s quite a difficult defeat to take, to be honest, as we played a lot of good cricket today.

- England skipper Nasser Hussain after their defeat to India at the Lord's.

After the Lord's win yesterday I got lucky with my first ball. The bounce was quite surprising and there was movement in the wicket right up until the last ball was bowled.

- Man-of-the-match Ajit Agarkar against Sri Lanka at the Oval surprised by the bounce he extracted from the pitch.

I enjoy the pressure. It keeps me on my toes.

- Sachin Tendulkar on his recent spate of low scores.

The ball hasn't really swung and his forte is when the ball swings. When it does that's when he's really potent but when it doesn't he's still a little bit inexperienced at this stage and he will have to learn more about variations.

- England coach Duncan Fletcher on seamer Matthew Hoggard's indifferent form.

We are ranked higher than England and India in one-day cricket. The time has come to show why.

- Sri Lankan coach Dave Whatmore on the eve of the NatWest Tri-Series.
