Mohandas Menon

NatWest Tri-Series
Sri Lanka vs India, 3rd ODI at The Oval

  • Scorecard | Match report | Images
  • Marvan Atapattu became the ninth Sri Lankan and the 64th player overall to appear in 150 LOI matches.

  • When he claimed the wicket of Sri Lankan captain Sanath Jayasuriya, Ajit Agarkar became the sixth Indian and the 31st bowler in LOIs to capture 150 wickets in LOIs.

Appearing in his 97th match of his career, Agarkar became the joint fifth quickest to reach this milestone in least matches among bowlers with over 150 wickets.

Pakistani off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq (78 matches in 1997-98),
South African paceman Allan Donald (89 matches in 1997-98),
Pakistani fast bowler Waqar Younis (91matches in 1994-95) and
Australian leggie Shane Warne (94 matches in 1997-98) are the only bowlers who have achieved this quicker than Agarkar.

English pace bowler Darren Gough also needed 97 matches to reach his 150th wicket in 2001-02. However Agarkar's feat is by far the quickest by an Indian bowler. Fellow leg- spinner Anil Kumble needed 106 matches to reach his landmark in 1996-97.

  • For the only second time in his career spanning 290 matches, Tendulkar has missed a fifty by one run. He was dismissed on 49 against Pakistan at Sharjah on 23-10-1991.

  • This win was India's only second win at this venue after its nine wicket win over England on 24-5-1986. India have meanwhile lost four matches here.

  • The man of the match award was Agarkar's fifth of his career.
