Mithali Raj records highest score in Tests

Mithali Raj scored the highest score in women's Test cricket as she dominated the penultimate day of the second Test between India and England at Taunton on Friday.

Mithali, India's vice-captain, remained unbeaten on 210 as India finished day three on 445 for the loss of 6 wickets in reply to England's 329.

Australia's KL Rolton held the previous record highest score -- 209* also scored against England in 2001.

At stumps, Jhalan Goswami was accompanying her on 54.

During her marathon knock, the 19-year old faced 400 balls and hit 19 boundaries. She also shared two century partnerships - first a 144-run stand for the fourth wicket with Hemalata Kala (62) and then an unbroken seventh wicket stand of 148 with Jhalan Goswami - to guide India to a mammoth total.

Mithali was also helped by some poor fielding by the English eves who missed three clear chances, although all of them came after she had passed the 150-mark.

England's woes were compounded as their poor overrate extended play 40 minutes beyond scheduled close.

Connor was the most successful bowler for the hosts bagging two wickets for 64 runs.

The series also looks certain to draw a blank with the first Test washed out.

Brief Scores:

England: 329
India: 445 for six (H Kala 62, A Chopra 52, M Raj 210 batting, J Goswami 54 batting; Connor 2-64)
