It was a do or die game for the Indian XI and when the Aussies won the toss on a perfect batting track and decided to bat, it was round one to the Aussies. The openers took full advantage of the oppurtunity and the Aussies were off to a blazing start by Test standards. Michael Slater was tentative to start with but was slowly beginning to find his touch in the middle.
