5th match: Coca Cola Tri series in Zimbabwe

West Indies vs Zimbabwe

arrow The 126 runs between Craig Wishart and Grant Flower was Zimbabwe's best for the fourth wicket against West Indies bettering the previous best of 114 between Alistair Campbell and Andy Flower at Kallang, Singapore on 2-9-1999. This incidentally was the second highest partnership for any wicket for Zimbabwe against West Indies. The highest still remains as the unbeaten 186 between Murray Goodwin and Grant Flower at Chester-le-Street on 16-7-2000.

arrow Grant Flower's 94 was his fifth score in the nineties. He becomes the tenth batsman in LOI history to record five or more scores in the "nineties". The maximum such scores have been recorded by Sri Lankan Aravinda deSilva - 8 times.

arrow Interestingly it was Flower's second score in the nineties against the West Indies. He had an unbeaten 96 at Chester-le-Street on 16-7-2000. He now joins Pakistani Zaheer Abbas (93 in 1979 and 95 not out in 1980), who has also recorded two nineties against the West Indies - the maximum such scores against this team in LOIs.

arrow Merv Dillon's two wickets makes him the highest wicket-taker for West Indies against Zimbabwe in LOIs. He betters the previous best of 10 wickets in six matches by Marlon Samuels. Dillon now has 12 wickets in 8 matches.

arrow Chris Gayle (76) playing in his 29th match of his career recorded his highest LOI score. He betters the previous best of 58 not out also against Zimbabwe at Kingston on 2-4-2000.

arrow Zimbabwe's loss with one ball to spare was its second closest defeat in LOIs after its last ball loss to New Zealand at Dhaka on 24-10-1998, in the first ICC Knockout tournament.

arrow This incidentally was the closest match (in terms of balls to spare) in Zimbabwe, after the four balls to spare win by India against the home team at the same venue on 27-6-2001.

arrow Zimbabwe after winning three matches against Bangladesh in April this year, have now lost four matches in a row.

arrow Grant Flower, playing in his 158th match, won his ninth man of the match award of his career. He now equals the tally held by his brother Andy and Alistair Campbell - for the maximum such awards for Zimbabwe in LOIs.
