Bathoi to meet Delhi police chief

South Africa's chief prosecutor for the Edwin King Commission of Inquiry into corruption in cricket Shamila Batohi will meet Delhi police Commissioner Ajai Raj Sharma on Monday.

She will discuss the enquiry conducted by the Delhi police Crime Branch in connection with the match-fixing scandal, police sources said.

Batohi's meeting with the police chief assumes significance since the Delhi police had, in early April, exposed the entire scandal involving disgraced former South African skipper Hansie Cronje and four other players.

Batohi, who is of Indian origin, will be accompanied by police officer Jeff Edwards. They are expected to meet people related to cricket and the match-fixing probe in India, reports from Durban said.

The reports also said that she is on a mission to acquire the taped conversations between Cronje and Indian bookmakers which are in the custody of the Delhi police.

The state prosecutor, who articulately handled the first part of the King Commission's hearing, will also attempt to talk to bookmakers who were allegedly involved with Cronje.

If Batohi is unable to obtain original the tape recordings, she wll ask for authenticated transcriptions of the conversation between Cronje and the bookies, the reports added.
