CBI may name 'one or two' players in report

The Central Bureau of Investigation Friday did not rule out the possibility of naming one or two Indian cricketers in its 'comprehensive' report on the match-fixing scandal likely to be submitted to the Union sports ministry soon.

"We are burning midnight oil" to complete the task of finishing the report of the probe that had been entrusted to the agency on May 2 last, CBI Director R K Raghavan told reporters during an informal chat in New Delhi.

He said, "We are working on the final report and most of the report, which will be comprehensive is complete."

Raghavan said the report will be later sent to the legal division of the agency to seek their opinion on the evidence collected by sleuths of special crime branch.

Asked whether any cricket player will be named, Raghavan said, "There may be one or two" but hastened to add, "It will be dishonest on my part to say that I have come to that conclusion."

The CBI director did not rule out the possibility of bringing out another report on match-fixing.

"We will decide the future course of action after submitting the report," he added.

To a question whether the agency would also take into consideration the finding of the King Commission set up by South African government, he said, "If there is any corraborative evidence, we will refer to it."

Asked whether the CBI will also question foreign players, the CBI chief said, "The agency has no such authority."
