Decision on Kapil's future this week

The Board of Control for Cricket in India will announce its decision on national coach Kapil Dev's future within the next three days.

"I will announce the decision a week before the conditioning camp (for the probables selected for the ICC knock-out tournament in Nairobi) begins in Chennai on September 14," Board president A C Muthiah told reporters after appearing at a special court in connection with the Southern Petrochemical Industries Corporation Disinvestment case.

Muthiah has been authorised by the BCCI working committee to talk to Kapil Dev following the latter's criticism of the functioning of the board, and take a decision "he deems fit".

Kapil had said he will disassociate himself from cricket after his contract as a coach is over in September 2001.

BCCI secretary Jaywant Lele on Saturday said a decision on the former highest wicket-taker in Test cricket would be announced by Muthiah shortly.
