Sri Lankan fast bowler Chaminda Vaas and South African all rounder Lance Klusener are leading the pack for the man of the tournament award in the World Cup 2003.

India's Sachin Tendulkar is one point behind. He is the only Indian player in the list at this stage.

Vaas' sensational hat-trick with the first three balls of the match against Bangladesh and his role in the defeat of Canada, who were bowled out for a record low of 36 runs, saw him gain five points which took him on par with with Klusener.

Vaas also leads the bowling averages with nine wickets at an average of 6.88.

Two of his teammates are also near the top of the man of the tournament standings. Sanath Jayasuriya is a point behind and fellow fast bowler Prabath Nissanka is on three points.

The three best players of each match, selected by the match referee, earn points, which contribute towards their man of the tournament rank. While the best player --- the man of the match --- gets three points, the second best gets two points and the third best one point.
