Fresh attack on Kabul begins

United States jets resumed their bombing spree of the Afghanistan capital Kabul on Wednesday at 8:15pm (11:45 am EDT), a report on CNN said.

The report said two loud explosions could be heard in the north of the city, which has a concentration of military installations.

An agency report confirming the attack said shortly before the raid, the electricity supply was cut, plunging the city into darkness.

Another agency report said a large number of jets were heading towards the Darulaman Palace and Rishkore in the west of the city.

It said that Kabul airport was again attacked, for the fourth day in succession, with heavy explosions rocking the area.

The report said the Taleban anti-aircraft positions were replying with heavy artillery fire.

It added that mobile anti-aircraft units were also deployed in Kabul for the first time

Meanwhile, US jets also bombed the Taleban stronghold of Kandahar, and one report in CNN quoting a source said the raids were 'heavy' and the 'windows were shaking'.

Another report in the same channel said Northern Alliance has opened a front against the Taleban in the north of Kabul, where heavy fighting was reportedly going on.
