Attacks against other countries may be necessary: US

The United States on Monday told the United Nations Security Council that attacks against other countries might be necessary, as its campaign against international terrorism develops.

US Ambassador to UN John Negroponte said in a letter to the Security Council that the US inquiry into terror attacks is in its early stages.

"We may find that our self-defence requires further actions with respect to other organisations and other states," Negroponte said.

President Bush previously has stated that the hunt for those responsible for the World Trade Centre and Pentagon may lead to parties outside of Afghanistan.
