A hill retreat located on the Sahyadri hills, Lonavala is 106 kms from Bombay. It is on the Bombay-Pune main railway line and is well connected by a number of trains.
The Shatabdi Express, The Deccan Express, the Hyderabad-Bombay Express, the Deccan Queen, the Indrayani Express, the Udyan Express and the Sahayadri Express all halt at Lonavala. The journey from Bombay to Lonavala takes about three hours by train.

Matheran, a vehicle free hill station close to Bombay, about 104 kms away, is situated at an altitude of 800 metres.
The best way to reach Matheran is by the Matheran Hill Train which takes about an hour and a half to climb the 21 kms journey to Matheran. The four coach train runs thrice a day from Neral to Matheran. However this service is not available during the monsoon. The one way second class fare is Rs 35 per head. Neral is on the Bombay-Pune line and is easily accessible by local trains from Bombay.
Regular buses run between Bombay and Neral and Dasturi. All vehicles stop at the Dasturi car park though. Horses or rickshaws can be hired from Dasturi to cover the 2.5 kms journey to Matheran.
