SPORT Afro-Asian Games India hosted the first Afro Asian Games at Hyderabad from October 24 to November 1. The nine-day sporting event saw about 2,000 athletes from 95 countries vying for honours in eight disciplines -- athletics, boxing, football, hockey, swimming, weightlifting, tennis and shooting. African athletes won glory in track and field events at the Games, accounting for more than two-thirds of the medals on offer. China topped the overall medals tally with 25 golds, 11 silver and five bronze; India finished second with 19 golds, 32 silvers, and 29 bronze. Japan with 15 golds, Nigeria and South Africa with 10 golds each finished in the top five. Text: Harish Kotian
