Bagan score narrow
win over JCT

Former champions Mohun Bagan stayed in the race for the title, beating JCT Mills, Phagwara, 2-1 in a 17th round National Football League match in Ludhiana on Wednesday.

The teams were locked goalless at half-time.

The victory took Bagan to the top of the 12-team league table with 32 points, one more than Goa's Vasco Sports Club.

Bagan went ahead in the 54th minute through R C Prakash, who made the best of a pass from Jose Barreto.

Thereafter, JCT went all out for the equaliser and came up with it nine minutes later through Hardip Saini, who beat rival goalkeeper Rajat Ghosh.

The all-important goal for Mohun Bagan came in the 76th minute through Uday Konar.
