10-strong East Bengal down ITI

Despite being reduced to 10-men, after Jiten Rai was given marching orders early in the second half, East Bengal held on to a first half goal, scored by Chandan Das, to beat Bangalore outfit Indian Telephone Industries in a Tata National Football League match in Bangalore on Sunday.

Das scored the all-important goal in the 41st minute.

It was the second successive setback for ITI, as they had lost to debutants Hindustan Aeronautics Limited in their last match.

ITI only have themselves to blame for the defeat in this 12th round match as they failed to capitalise on the numerous chances that came their way.

The defeat means ITI is stuck on 19 points while East Bengal improved their tally to 17 points.
