Chandok to race in British Formula Three

Teenager Karun Chandok will become the second Indian to drive in the British Formula Three championship following a successful test drive on Wednesday, his sponsors said.

The 17-year-old Chandok, who is the leading driver in the Formula Asia championship, will race with Carlin Motorsports, winners of this year's British Formula Three championship, his sponsors said in a statement on Thursday.

Chandok will be the second Indian driver after Narain Karthikeyan to figure in the Formula Three circuit which is seen as an important step for F1 aspirants.

Karthikeyan, who twice test drove for F1 team Jordan earlier this month, raced for Carlin Motorsports last year.

Karthikeyan, who currently races in Japan's Formula Nippon championship, attended Chandok's test drive, the statement said.

Chandok, who tested for two days at the high-speed Pembrey track in South Wales, clocked 51.9 seconds on his fastest lap after being given a benchmark of 52.7 seconds.
