Humpy in joint second place

World junior chess champion Koneru Humpy is in joint second place with three others after two rounds in the First Saturday Grandmasters tournament in Budapest, Hungary.

A victory in the second round gave the Andrha girl a full point and took her tally to 1.5 points.

Playing white, against WGM Dembo Yelena of Hungary, she won the match comfortably.

In the first round, Humpy played with black against Grandmaster Kosanovic Goran of Yugoslavia and earned a creditable draw.

In the third round on Monday night, with black, she takes on Husari Satea of Syria.

The First Saturday GM tournament, which began on October 6, ends on October 17. Twelve players from various countries like Hungary, Yugoslavia, Syria, Qatar, Vietnam, Bulgaria and India are participating.
