3 held in connection with Gulshan Kumar murder

Three people have been held in connection with the murder of music mogul Gulshan Kumar in Bombay on Tuesday.

The police said two people owing allegiance to the Abu Salem faction of the Dawood Ibrahim gang were picked by the Crime Branch on Wednesday night while one was nabbed that afternoon.

The three men, Vakil Shekhar, Shaukat and Nizamuddin, are suspected to be involved in many cases of murder, kidnapping and extortion.

Nizamuddin, who owed allegiance to the Salim Haddi gang, was also believed to be involved in the murder of local builder Om Prakash Kukreja, the police said, adding that even if the trio may not have been involved in the Gulshan Kumar killing, they may have been involved in the planning phase.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Gopinath Munde denied that the Bombay police had advance information of a possible attack on Gulshan Kumar, claiming the businessman never sought protection from the police.
