Another Saturday, another blast. Delhi has been rocked once again in a span of just two weeks. Intelligence Bureau sources told rediff.com that the latest blast in New Delhi is an act of terror.

The IB says the blast was more of a retaliatory measure and was aimed at creating a scare. Normally, terrorists do not strike in the same place in quick sucession since security is high.

However, the manner in which this blast has taken place shows that it could be retaliatory in nature. The retaliation is most likely against the spate of arrests in the country in the aftermath of the various serial blasts.

Another question that is being raised is whether this was in retaliation to the recent encounter in Delhi, which several persons allege was stage managed.

Preliminary reports suggest it was a low-intensity blast. Moreover, the bomb does not appear to be similar to the one that was used in the serial blasts at Delhi last week.

The nature in which the attack was undertaken also shows that it is not the handiwork of a professional outfit. Another reason to beleive that the blasts were just retaliatory in nature and not aimed at causing largescale destruction is the area chosen and the timing of the blast.

Terrorists usually choose high profile areas to carry out attacks. Explosions are timed to create maximum damage.

It is very evident that any market area is not as full as it supposed to be at 2.15 pm, the time at which the bomb took off at Mehrauli.

The bomb in the latest blast was placed in a tiffin box and wrapped in a black bag. According to eye-witnesses, two men came on a motor-cycle and dropped the bag near an electronic shop in Mehrauli, south Delhi.
