Unidentified persons attacked the house of a senior religious and separatist leader in Srinagar late Tuesday evening.

Suspected militants tossed a powerful hand grenade at the residence of Moulvi Showkat Ahmad Shah, chairman of the Jamiat Ahle-hadees at Lal Bazaar in downtown Srinagar.

The grenade fell and exploded in the lawn of the house triggering panic.

The police said no one was injured in the grenade blast.

However, windowpanes of the house were damaged in the explosion.

Moulvi is a senior religious figure and member of the separatist coordination committee spearheading the ongoing agitation in Kashmir.

The police said Moulvi Showkat was not present in his house at the time of the attack.
