Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday night held an emergency cabinet meeting to discuss the growing concerns over terrorism, amid speculations that a new Internal Security Minister may be appointed.

The meeting has been called in the backdrop of serial blasts in Delhi, after which the government, particularly Home Minister Shivraj Patil, has come under attack from the opposition as well as some United Progressive Alliance allies.
Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, who made an oblique criticism of the functioning of the Home Ministry in the wake of the Delhi blasts and demanded a special meeting of the union cabinet to discuss the issue, was conspicuous by his absence in the meeting.
BJP will support Congress on strict terror laws
The meeting comes on a day when the Prime Minister announced that the government was actively considering further strengthening of the existing anti-terror law.
Though the UPA government has rejected the Bharatiya Janata Party's demand for enacting a Prevention Of Terrorist Activities-type law, it appears to be considering the possibility of a stringent anti-terror law.
